One thing I have a love hate relationship with is cleaning. I love a clean, decluttered home but I hate getting started. I love the exhausted sleep at the end of a good deep clean as it feels like I’ve accomplished something but I don’t enjoy the stiff muscles. So it’s a perfect balance, I guess. I am learning to find ways to love it though and one of those ways is with green cleaning, chemicals left me coughing and splattering with almost eczema looking rashes all over my hands and body, I’d feel sick for days after a clean and have very little energy to continue.
Swoping out chemicals for white vinigar and bicarbonate of soda has honestly changed my deep cleaning experience. I soak lemon and orange peels in the vinegar and that makes my home smell like fresh citrus instead of that strong vinigar smell. I love the fact that after cleaning with this magical combo I’m able to breath and don’t spend weeks scratching at my hands that crack and bleed.
The bicarb and vinigar is so great, my metal shines, it bubbles away that gunky layer around your plugs in your sinks and bath, it kills mold in your showers, disinfects toilets and even gets rid of flies and ants as they can’t stand the citrus smell. I don’t have to worry about my toddler gulping down some viniagr as its all natural and he even helps with scrubbing the shower and love to watch the bubbles!
Okay so enough about my bicarbonate of soda and white vinigar let’s talk about a deep clean and why it’s so important. I deep clean twice a year, once in spring and once in autumn. The reason I do this is because dust allergies are a real thing and my son and I suffer quite badly. These allergies make us congested, weaken our immune system leaving us sickly and exhausted.
Declutering is also vital as our brains actually battle to focus and be happy in cluttered spaces, it’s been proven recently that clutter can actually lead to depression and anxiety, so by decluttering your space you add happiness and calm to your home, which in my life is the ultimate goal for myself and my family! I’m not always able to do this as often as I’d like but I make sure that twice a year it’s an absolute must do.
So to summarize it all, put on some great music, grab some green cleaning supplies and get scrubbing! You’ll be amazed at how much this little ritual can change your life!
